song for a winter's night

somehow, i never do catch movies when they come out at the theatres. it's like a problem i have, together with all the other problems i have.

so since this is break week, i went to video ezy and got myself five movies i've missed.

1. motorcycle diaries

probably my favourite of the lot.

i adore the spanish language. ernesto che guevara. i adore him in his younger days - the innocence of innocent revolutionary ideals. do these things always have to develop to the most extreme side of the spectrum for those who are passionate? why. because the true revolutionary is guided by great feelings of love?

the film was a lot better than the book adaptation i read - adaptations never do justice.

watching it really made me yearn to travel south america. the thought of travelling to the side of the americas again of course doesn't seem fitting to what should be in store in the short term but i certainly desire to visit the lands of peru, chile, argentina, columbia, and cuba one day.

che lives. guerrilla is so hot in advertising right now.

2. stomp the yard

another one of those drumline//save the last dance// type movies but makes for good entertainment esp in this house where all the ladies aspire to move like black soul sistas. i should pursue stepping eh, lose these pounds and stop being the fatty. and of course intelligence plus character - that is the true goal of education. what an apt reminder for now.

3. namesake

i love mira nair, but the book was better than the film - adaptations never do justice. and i'm just especially critical cause namesake is one of my favorite books!

4. click

yes, i didn't catch click. i told you i have a problem with these releases and things. so i had to rent it of course cause i've watched every single happy madison film - groupie, me. adam sandler is my favorite actor, since all time. he was more serious this time though, esp the dying scene, so dramalah. still, i thought it was a good film to watch - now - no fast forwarding people, let's just go slow and relish every moment: slurp it, sniff it, love-love it.

5. garden state

been wanting to catch this since it came out. zach braff's a talent. i wish he made more films. if you can't laugh at yourself, life's gonna seem a whole lot longer than you like.

***

so break week is break week cause i got to dvd junkie-out, play seth a bit, hang out with the parents, hang out with the sisters. those were all good times (esp going mad with rach and ruth think: us stepping)

it is rubbish, that i had to slog during the break week. break week should be break week. break, it says. I should be able, for instance, to live the country on the day break week starts, and return the day before school starts. but the only time in my 4 years i got to do that was when i was not in sg and got to travel canada 9 days. well.

still, i appreciate life, and i thank You for your sustainence. until victory always.

mid autumn night

cause everything is going to be alright

romans eight twenty eight

so many reasons to go on my knees.

mommy was admitted to the hospital 2 nights. happened during a crazy time for all of us. but God has been good to the family. yesterday when we all crowded onto her bed, we made a resolution to be Healthy Living family after she gets discharged. Pops is talking about getting a threadmill. We'll work together to making her stronger.

and of course the other reasons. but what are all these trials compared to .. ? i'll be staying on my knees for a long time this time, and I think You meant for it that way.

truth be told, there really is no better way.

walang bato

plugging for sam. he's buying me a sandwich from the sandwich machine by putting this here. here's a trailer to his fyp. i think it's going to be awesome.

james one four

But let patience have her perfect work

that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

home town

In a book on three places that inspire global hope, Bill McKibben, an American, wrote that “Kerala demonstrates that a low-level economy can create a decent life” and shows that “sharing works.”

Move there.

Read more on NYT - thanks cher =)

dream on

BARB is Singapore's Cat Empire.
It would have been awesome if we got to see more of them.
But nvm, I'm going to be their groupie.

After The Rain is a waste of time and After this they can go home.

the fyp-mates surprised with a cake in the middle of a meeting at the benches. i love my fweepmates.

i'm not sure.

perhaps the final year is supposed to be this tiring.

i suck at malay and my cikgu picks on me cause i look like a minah but talk like a freaking cina perempuan.

we met with apb, we got apb, and now we work like we've never worked before. so much uncertainty i drown myself in caffeine and go mental when the machine not only not delivers my coffee, it eats my money.

we got to listen to ronald rice and tom watson this week. one brit, one merican, both quoted sriramesh, but this one has vanished.

mark brings us to a nice chinese restaurant in school, we eat nice chicken, nice shrimps, and i look forward to my nice weekly coffee sessions with jasmine, and mark can come if he wants, together we will survive this place and space :)

the kids messaged on teacher's day. so sayang. i told them it's weird if they keep calling me ms ye. it's been 4 years! empat tahun. what would life be without em.

focus-grped for deb's online + political participation study. realize how politically inactive i am, sitting next to founder of online citizen, zheng xi, scott who petition-ed and writes to ministers, aaron who is active on the grassroots level; i look at myself - i whine.

i'm not sure.
but i'm pretty sure i could work a lot harder.
